Tawnaghmore 110kV ESB Substation
ESB Networks
Duration
The original Tawnaghmore Substation required upgrading due to the new Mayo Renewable Power CHP plant also based in Killala. Mayo Renewable Power is a nominal 40MW export rated IPP power plant firing biomass. The construction of this plant also involves a 110kV ESBN connection to adjacent upgraded ESBN Tawnaghmore 110kV substation, two existing 50MW peaking GT plants and a future windfarm.
The main gravity sewer pipe to the pump station is constructed across very poor ground conditions which required a floating type design for the pipes and included one river crossing requiring fluming and over pumping. The storage tank and pump tank required breaking out large volumes of limestone rock in a flooded area with close proximity to the local river.
The project was handed over on time, on budget and to a very high standard which was to the satisfaction of the Client which was highlighted at our final project review meeting.
